P1/M1- Understand the purpose and use of a personal media profile

A media profile is a document made for people to present their skills, attributes and qualifications to an employer when applying to places such as university, apprenticeships and employment. Examples of documents are CV's and Personal Statements. These serve the purpose of marketing themselves to employers and are usually presented in the early stages of employment and are usually followed by an interview where you can show of your skills and characteristics to see if they are suitable for the needs of the employer and fit the role that they are offering.

Here I will be discussing CV's and their contents and their importance. CVs are usually very short documents ranging between a single side of A4 to one and a half pages as these documents aren't meant to be very long, usually an employer will quickly scan through these documents looking for key words so long paragraphs may result in them not reading it. The topics you will want to highlight are as follows:

Qualifications are important as they usually show off a lot of skills that you have gained through your studies, this is very important when applying to university as your grades are equal to the amount of UCAS points needed, in employment terms a grade or degree shows their level of skill in a profession. For example in a job for web design, you will need to have skills and experience with programming and designing websites and skills in forward such as Adobe XD.

To conclude, CV's are a physical document which can also be digital and are commonly used when applying for a job and it briefly outlines the person's skills, qualifications and traits, these are probably the most common form of media profile used today.

Showreels

Showreels are a way for producers to show off their work, for this people put in videos of their work to showcase what they have done for people to look at, it is a good way to show off the person's skills and professions and is also a good way to repurpose work. This is a great way to keep people's interests as most people do not like extensive amounts of text within their work, as they will not read all of it and will be quickly bored.

Here is an example of a showreel is a profile on Julian Langham who is a videographer based in London who has a showreel of his work which is a compilation of his best work all put into a single video. This is a good example as it is a showreel which shows off multiple pieces of work rather than just one, However they probably should do it as many videos as this looks quite plain and by having multiple videos it instantly shows they they have a lot of experience and have worked on many projects.

website

Websites are a way for professionals to display their work and also engage with potential clients, in here people can go into more depth about their clients that they have worked with. This is usually great as it shows that they have had experience in industry and the more positive experience someone has in an industry, the more desirable they will seem as they will have more knowledge on the industry in comparison to someone who has just joined the industry.

This is a good example as it clearly shows their illustrations and shows some brief information on the clients in which they have produced them for, however I believe there needs to be some more text on the brief they were set and also have different pages on their website dedicated to different mediums or clients.
